Itinerary for those who are interested to join the bike ride to Aberdeen. Please let me know by the 27th of March if you plan on coming.
Cost
Roughly £44 if you’re needing accommodation for both nights.
What you need:
A bike, a bike lock, a helmet, money for food & drinks, snacks, water, train ticket back to Edinburgh (remember to reserve a bike space.)
Friday 12th of June 6pm
First Leg 42 miles – Leith to Falkland – From Leith following the coastal road to Cramond. From there we will be joining a pathway that eventually leads us to the Miller and Carter on Queensferry Road. Then we go through Dalmeny Estate and head towards Queensferry Crossing. Once we’ve crossed the bridge we will be following the coastal road to Falkland.
Accommodation in Falkland sleeps 9 (2 double beds, 5 singles). It is Air BNB and is self catered so we should plan to take dinner / breakfast. It costs £170 so £19pp if we fill it. If there are more that would like to join us on the first night I will look into other places to stay which may mean a slight change to the route. Check Accommodation Here.
Saturday 13th of June, 10am
Second Leg 51 miles – Falkland to Lunan Bay – We need to be out of the accommodation by 10am. I will suggest a small lie in and a big brekkie. The plan is to jump back on the National 1 Cycle Route and follow it all the way, along the coast, towards Montrose. Just before we arrive at Montrose we will come to Lunan Bay and hopefully be staying at Lunan Bay Stays. This is looking at roughly £25 pp and is a mix of twin rooms and bunk bed rooms. Check Accommodation Here.
Sunday 14th of June, 10am
Third Leg 47.8 miles – Lunan Bay to Aberdeen – The route up to Aberdeen will mostly follow the National 1 Cycle Route. Pretty much coastal the whole way. Hopefully arriving in Aberdeen by 4pm for a big team meal and then get the train back to Edinburgh. We will have to book bikes on the train.
I’m thinking we will be riding at roughly 10 – 12 miles per hour. If anyone is planning to go faster I will be sharing the route with everyone so we can always regroup at lunch / accommodation stops. The first leg will probably be the hardest as we will be getting in late but the light nights will be in our favour! Legs 2 & 3 will be more chilled with coffee and lunch stops.
Bike Ride Route
This is roughly what the route will look like but I still need to check it out and confirm. – Edinburgh to Aberdeen Cycle Route.
